Registration of Trademarks
A
trademark's registration is effective for a period of ten years
from the date of filling the application form and may be renewed for
similar periods.
Effective June 16, 2003 the Trademark Office adopted the 8th edition of
international classification of goods and services.
According
to Islamic codes, alcoholic beverages which are included in class 33,
"beer, ale and porter" in class 32 and all trademarks
comprising portraits of "Women" in any form, are prohibited
for registration and renewal in Iran.
Requirements
for filing a trademark application in Iran are:
- The full name and address of the applicant.
- List of goods and/or services and related
classes.
- A sample of the mark. For three-dimensional marks the applicant must provide sufficient dimensions of the mark
to be clearly represented.
- A
power of attorney certified and legalized by the Iranian
Consulate.
- Certified copy of home or abroad registration or application.
